Settle these before comparing the grid

  1. Transom: height and material set the shaft length and the maximum weight the boat can carry at the stern. An air-floor boat and a rigid-hull boat do not take the same motor.
  2. Electric or petrol: electric drives quote thrust and runtime at a stated draw; petrol outboards quote horsepower. The two cannot be compared on a single number.
  3. Battery: for electric units, capacity and whether the pack is included change both the price and the shipping category.
  4. Shipping: lithium packs and petrol engines each carry their own freight restrictions, which have to be settled before a landed cost means anything.
