A source link is a claim, not a specification

A marketplace listing is written to sell, and the fields that decide a boat are the ones it is least likely to fill. Length and a headline price are always there; fabric thickness, floor construction, transom material and the assumption behind the rated persons usually are not. Sending the link and asking for those four back in writing is the cheapest verification step available, and it separates a supplier reading from a factory sheet from one estimating.

Ask for the answers against a model code, not against the listing title. A factory programme identifies a boat as, for example, RSD-AL270 — the line, the floor and the length in one string. If the reply cannot produce a code, the quote is being assembled from a photograph.

The price you compared is rarely the price you pay

A source price is one component of six. Domestic freight to the consolidation point, export packing, service fee, international freight, duty and last-mile delivery all sit on top, and for inflatables the freight share is unusually large because the cargo is light and bulky — volumetric weight, not mass, sets the cost. Two source prices that differ by ten percent can land within one percent of each other, or diverge by half again, depending entirely on the route.

Separate those six lines before comparing suppliers. A quote that presents one number has not been made comparable; it has been made simple, which is not the same thing.

What to settle before money moves

Confirm who the counterparty actually is — a trading company, a factory, or a storefront reselling both — and confirm the beneficiary on the invoice against the entity you agreed with. That check takes a minute and is the single highest-value step in the process.

Then settle production timing against your required date rather than against a lead-time range, and ask what happens if the slot moves. For a first order, ask for the sample, the 20-piece and the 100-piece assumptions in the same reply: a supplier who can price all three has a production plan, and one who can only price the sample is quoting stock.

Evidence that is worth asking for

Ask for production-stage photographs of the model you are buying rather than catalogue images, and ask for the packing shot — carton, dimensions and markings — before shipment. Workshop footage and storefront metadata support supplier screening, but they do not prove the batch, the capacity or the production slot behind your specific order.

For anything sold on a safety claim, require the document to name the exact model and length. A certificate issued for a 380 cm hull is not evidence for the 450 cm one you are ordering, and a catalogue row is not a certificate at all.
